"Cofactors plus enzymes are the catalysts for every biochemical
reaction".
But what happens when the cofactors are missing or deficient?
PLANT SOURCED COLLOIDAL TRACE ELEMENTS - THE MISSING LINK IN TODAY'S
NUTRITION
In an intriguing study of soil status in major food producing
nations Dr Ward Chesworth, of the Canadian Guelph University, reported:
"Australia is the world's poorest landmass in micro-nutrients".
This significant result highlights for Australian healthcare practitioners
the frequent warnings by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) that
95% of Americans are deficient in minerals and trace elements (how much
worse off are Australians?).
in fact, the USDA Plants, Soils and Nutrition Laboratory
(PSNL) has an intense research program to map the nation's regional
agricultural soil trace element characteristics and genetically engineer
plants that provide higher than normal amounts of specific minerals
and other nutrients. "Soils", it seems, "ain't
soils"!
TRACE MINERALS - A VITAL KEY IN HUMAN HEALTH
The USDA PSNL research identified Selenium (Se) deficient
areas in the North West Pacific Coast, along Great Lakes lands and the
Atlantic Coast and all of Florida. This map was used by researchers to
demonstrate a strong inverse correlation between the Se content of soils
and forages and the incidence of lung, breast, rectal, bladder, oesophageal
and cervical cancer in animals. This correlates with human studies linking
Se plus vitamin E deficiency with lung, skin, and gastrointestinal cancers
in humans.
The most recognised Se deficiency disease in humans is
Keshan disease, a cardiomyopathy affecting mostly women and young children.
This was also found by soil sampling/epidemiology. Other conditions associated
with low Se status include: alcoholic cirrhosis, muscular dystrophy,
infertility, muscular degeneration and diabetic neuropathy.
In the US agricultural trials regulatory approved use of
Selenium additives reversed the situation and save the areas many millions
of dollars per year. To combat this and similar deficiencies work has
been done to produce plants that will take up and release larger amounts
of specific minerals and other nutrients. This has been for commercial
purposes as well as human and livestock health; the American Soybean Association
estimated that an increase of 1% in Methionine in soybeans would add $375,000,000
to the value of the domestic soybean market. (Methionine is used, along
with Choline and the herb Silimarin (St. Mary's thistle), in most of the
widely-used complimentary medicine formulas for enhancing liver metabolism).
But this type of genetic engineering has many pitfalls.
The essential synergism of nutrients, and their often mutual preferential
linking sites to cell walls, requires a delicate balance and tipping the
scales in favour of one nutrient can have disastrous effects. For instance,
excessive Se (which is considered to begin around only 2000 µg daily)
significantly reduces iron absorption, so it is possible that the animals
in the USDA Se trials could next be having problems with anaemia or some
other, as yet unknown, side-effect of tinkering with Nature's balance;
for instance, Vitamin A (plus C & K) is affected by high Se levels
- and Vitamin A is essential in protein and glycogen metabolism, some
hormone synthesis and cell membrane repair.
The Se story can be applied to any or all the essential
micro-nutrients - with many individual characteristic nuances. Manganese
(Mn), for instance has long been known as the structural trace element
- affecting skeleton, posture, and connective tissues. Mn can also affect
reproduction and birthing. Defective ovulation, ovarian and testicular
degeneration and increased infant mortality are associated with Mn deficiency.
If agricultural practices were changed to increase Mn levels
in deficient areas - then it is possible that Iron (Fe) levels would become
toxic through excess retention, a side-affect of too much Mn. The antagonists
and synergists among all of the hundreds of nutrients, when humanly engineered
in the laboratory or soil and plant science, could indeed produce worms
- a whole can of them!
SIMPLE ANSWER? "PREHISTORIC PLANT MINERALS"
ACCORDING TO TWO NOBEL PRIZE NOMINEES
Many physicians and naturopaths in the emerging field of complimentary medicine
recognise that complete and lasting patient recovery can only occur when
cellular and extra-cellular nutritional status is optimised. But how do
we control the value of the patient's diet and, more importantly - uptake
of nutrients? The answer is - we can't. For most patients, diet changes
head the list in non-compliance.
But now, according to both German, American and Dutch doctors and scientists
it is possible - from a laboratory and clinically tested unique source,
to add a completely balanced, total trace element natural liquid as part
of the daily intake. This liquid is derived from a 1.5 square mile pre-historic
plant life deposit in central Utah, USA.
The controlled laboratory trial performed by Dr Popp, and clinical trials
in Germany plus testimonies from daily experience of users over a period
of 70 years have shown that only tiny amounts of these concentrated trace
elements (TM'S) can often make most significant changes in all kinds of
morbidity.
These findings should not surprise us. TM research has jumped in a quantum
leap in the last 30 years. Only seven TM's had been found to be essential
by 1953. By 1971 the number had risen to ten (Cu, Mn, Zn, Co, Mo, Se,
Chr, Sn, I, and Vanadium) - today sports laboratories test sportsmen for
38! And, according to the work of America biophysicist Dr Carey A. Reams,
there are still another 46 necessary to maintain life. Moreover by 1972,
even the ultra-trace elements were showing to be essential in vital physiological
function. Strontium, in depleted Sr diets, was found to adversely affect
bone strength (but high levels associate with malignancy). In 1988 boron,
thought to be essential to plants only, was discovered to markedly increase
serum levels of estrogen (17B estradiol) in post-menopausal women.
These research findings raise the complex question of dosage. Nature
has the answer.
WATCH FOR VARIATION IN THE VIABILITY OF COLLOIDS
Currently there are two types of colloidal mineral products marketed.
Firstly, the organic plant sourced variety from humic shales in Utah;
and secondly, inorganic colloidal minerals from soils and clays from various
sources.
The first has been acted upon by photosynthesis and fulvic acid in its
plant source and carries a negative charge - it is therefore ionised and
chelated by the fulvic acid. The second mixture of plain inorganic plus
chelated inorganic colloid material with a positive charge.
The intestinal wall has an extra-cellular charge which is positive (except
at neutral pH - which very rarely occurs.) The negatively charged plant
sourced colloids therefore absorb maximally - which one would expect from
a plant eating humanoid. Some organic colloidal suppliers dilute heavily,
so look for specific gravity of >2.5 product.

THE FASCINATING STORY BEHIND THE UTAH COLLOIDS
Hundreds of years before European settlement of North America, the Piute
Indians of Central Utah journeyed to a sacred spring known for its extraordinary
healing powers.
In 1920 an ailing rancher named Thomas Clark was led to this spring by
one of the few remaining Indian elders. Soon after drinking the water
he underwent an amazing recovery. Encouraged by this result he determined
to unlock the secret of his mysterious healing spring. He followed the
spring back ti its source and found that the water flowed through an unusual
deposit of material laid under 25 foot of sandstone.
The material was later determined to be the elemental remains of an ancient
rain forest, uniquely encapsulated for what was believed to be 60 - 120
million years.
When analysed, the deposit was found to contain over 70 different minerals
and trace minerals in a human physiological balance. But it has been the
subsequent research into the nature of these elements that has shown the
most exciting results. For these essential minerals are colloidal and
plant sourced - therefore negatively charged.
THE WORK OF DR MURRAY MAYNARD B.Sc. M.D. Uni. of Cincinnati
Convinced that faulty nutrition was the basis for much disease, Dr Maynard
spent 40 years using the trace elements of sea-water (which have a very
similar ratio to Clark mine colloids) to produce crops. From this food
he ran various trials.
A significant result was found in a control study with C3H mice, whose
females nearly always develop breast cancer.
Group (i) - 200, 2 month old mice fed with mineral colloidal raised food
lived healthily to 16 months and were sacrificed - no cancer found. They
produced 10 litters.
Group (ii) - 200, 2 month mice fed on standard chow. All dead in 8 months
and 7 days, of cancer. They produced 2 - 3 litters.
THE NATURE OF COLLOIDAL MINERALS
Colloidal elements move in a pre-physical realm on the borders of physics
and chemistry. Too small in mass to be weighed, they escape the effects
of gravity and can even pass through glass. This interface between the
seen and unseen is impelled in a continuous swirl by what are called Brownian
forces, so that a true colloidal solution will never settle.
Their negative charge makes them immediately accessible to the intestinal
cell biology and far superior to any other form of mineral enhancement.
This negative charge also enables the colloids to chelate toxic chemicals
and heavy metals.
CLINICAL RESULTS WITH COLLOIDS
This ability to detoxify has been demonstrated time and again in clinical
settings.
Dr. Michael Zimmerman, Chief of Staff of the Specialised Clinic for Chronic
Illnesses and Therapy Resistant Patients, in Berlingen, Germany had the
Clark's Minerals tested in his clinical studies. He said "Since we
can practically eliminate dietary influences in our fasting patients,
we can really draw conclusions as to the results and effects of any medical
treatment in a very clear way. We are able to observe that the Clark's
Mineral Formula enhances the depoisoning ability of the organism in a
very positive way. It activates and speeds the healing process, especially
in chronic illnesses."
In my own practice over 30 years I have seldom come across such useful
nutritional tools as colloidal trace minerals. In 1989, I found results
that precisely confirmed those of Dr Zimmerman.
While working in our residential Clinic specialising in chronic and non-responding
disease, I was using the Clark trace-mineral liquid to help detoxify chemically
compromised patients in a trial program initiated by the well-known Australian
environmental specialist, Dr mark Donohue. In this trial, blood samples
were sent to a Texas laboratory. The results of the first 38 Australian
samples showed them to be on average up to 1000% higher in environmental
chemicals than a US citizen.
One of my patients was the worst case in this sample. She had suffered
with debilitating fatigue, oedema, and myalgia for years. We had done
everything known to help, with only a small improvement. During the night
following the first use of Clark minerals, she micturated frequently through
the entire night, and on waking found herself free of pain and her oedemic
legs and ankles returned to normal. This was a remarkable outcome. After
several weeks of use she experienced a major rash under one arm lasting
for two weeks, which "smelled embarrassingly" of chemicals.
When the rash cleared she had a further symptom improve-ments. It was
obvious that chemical chelation took place, and further tests proved this.
European doctors and naturopaths have been using Clark Colloids for some
six years. Two of these, Dr Gottfried Lange MD and associate Dr Martin
Keymer, specialise in toxicology. Their work has shed light on the rapid
results often reported in using plant colloidal minerals. In February
1996 Dr Lange held seminars in the USA on his studies in vascular-to-cell
nutrient transfer. He explained that nutrients do not have a simple blood-to-cell
transfer, but must pass through connective tissue to cell site. Often,
in morbid states, this tissue is contaminated with pollutants causing
poor or even nil transfer of nutrients. They had found that colloidal
minerals have an unusual ability to "flush-out" connective tissue,
especially the mesenchyme.
EVIDENCE BASED MEDICINE (Testimonies - most in Affidavits)
This type of evidence is not usually reported in The Medi-file Report,
however, some of these cases can only be described as amazing and should
be on record. Repeated results over periods of time = scientific proof.
